For some people, business school is a very good use of the four years or so that they spend in college. But for some other people, those four years would have been better spent digging ditches or scrubbing toilets for minimum wage. It really does depend on the individual whether business school is a good idea or not, because there are an awful lot of variables that you have got to consider in your own life. For one thing, are you going to be getting a job where such a degree is necessary? For another, are you going to go into a field which is not saturated with business graduates already?
If the degree is not necessary, it might be best to simply take a few select business courses and leave the rest of it to someone else. After all, the ideas of college are to network with people who want to be successful, and to learn a lot of valuable things about how to make your life work better. It would not matter what your degree was in, so long as you picked up a lot of valuable knowledge and contacts over the course of it all. These are some of the most important aspects of the whole thing.
Are there a lot of business graduates who are constantly going into the same field that you are considering going into? If this is the case, then why are you even bothering with it? If you are going to be truly successful, the idea is that you have got to stand out, as opposed to simply blending in with all of the other stuffed shirts who are walking around like zombies, hoping to get “a job.” If you act like those people, you will achieve only the tiny scraps of atrophied success that the whole group of those people are destined to get in life.
